Going to a U2 concert this late in their careers after seeing them 18 times since 1987 is like going to see old friends. Expectations are low. I mean, is it possible to follow a band ad nauseum, collect everything on DVD, CD, iTunes, bootleg, read books about them; watch them occupy a late night talk show that only features them AND STILL BE BLOWN AWAY BY ANOTHER PERFORMANCE????
Only if you are a U2 fan who attended last nights show in Philly!!!!
I'm jazzed. And as my wife tells me repeatedly, "I've never seen you so talkative, calling friends, writing reviews; wow!, you are a lucky man!"
When Bono said, "Where's the guy who held up the sign asking us to play People Get Ready?" I thought that guy was going to jump the rail and leap to the catwalk. But Bono said, "This one is for you! Who can play my guitar?" And out steps Bruce Springsteen.
I thought the walls were going to crumble. It was that earth shatteringly loud. God bless you boys. You reinvigorated an old friend.
