Nicknamed "the Hive," Charlotte Coliseum opened in 1988 as the home of the NBA's Charlotte Hornets. Frank Sinatra was the first of many to perform at the arena during its seventeen year history. The arena's final act was serving as a shelter for Hurrican Katrina evacuees in the summer of 2005. The Charlotte Coliseum was demolished in 2007.
