MY FIRST U2 CONCERT. I am a 38 year old first time U2 concert goer. I have always been a casual fan of U2 and this show was very different from other concerts I have been to. I also work for the lighting company supplying the tour- that is why I went.
I thought the production was of the highest value I have ever seen. The visuals were amazing, like nothing ever seen before at rock show. My only complaint is that the show was definitely arranged in a manner that strongly favored those looking straight on, side and back view patrons often had their view obstructed by moving parts of the show. At the same time, I think the people on the main floor lost out on a lot of the LED used around the ellipse. That was very effective and I am glad I was up in the lower bowl so I had nice view of it. During "Vertigo" the LEDs chasing around the ellipse while Bono worked the crowd from there was awesome.
I thought the band sounded awesome, nothing more to say there.
My only complain about the band's performance was all of the extra-curricular stuff going on. Bono spent too much time talking politics, and the band bastardized too many songs, vamping and ending songs in a strange way, they even worked some Beatles lyrics in last night that I thought was totally uncalled for. I wanted U2 playing nothing but U2 songs the way I am used to hearing them.
In the end, a great show, but I would not have wanted to pay $175.00 for a ticket!
