I had the chance to see U2 live in Winnipeg of '97. I read the reviews by other fans that were there, and with some parts of the review I agree. I don't know if it's just me but I felt that U2 should have stuck more to the classics because the Pop album was so new that the older crowd that made up most of the fans didn't appreicate the new songs. Myself being in my early 20's thought the show was great, the music incrediable and the light show amazing. I did feel though that compared to their last tour Zoo TV, that the band didn't interact with the audience enough. I felt that some of the classics were rushed through. I realize that the whole purpose for the tour was for Pop and maybe because this album was so different then their classic stuff that it took a little longer to recieve with the music fans, but I felt that during the concert the band played to many songs from the Pop when most of the audience wern't ready to recieve them yet.
My favorite moment in the show was when they performed With or Without You. Seeing as that is my favorite song ever, while it was playing I felt like I was I was in Heaven.
I was lucky enough to be working in the hotel that the band stayed at during their time in Winnipeg, and though I had very bad timing and kept missing them from getting a autograph, I did make dessert for them and their staff, and it went over very well. They sent down their personal thanks to the Pastry department. A lot of staff from the hotel did meet them, get autographs and rumor has it they tip very well. I hope I get the chance to see them perform live again.
