Built in 1960 by Sean Byrne the famous Baymount Hotel in Strandhill was a venue that attracted such diverse acts from Butch Moore to U2 and which always left its invariably large attendances going home happy.

The venue shut its doors for the final time in October 1989, but for three decades the people of Sligo and surrounding counties could literally see and hear bands in the flesh that had could have featured only that week on shows such as Top of the Pops.The bulldozers moved in on the site in the early 1990s and 28 houses now sit where U2 once played in March 1980.
