U2, minus Bono, performed at the free "A (RED) Thank You presented by Bank of America" concert in New York City. U2 was introduced by former President Bill Clinton, who said he was there at Bono's request. The show was billed as "U2 minus 1."
Bruce Springsteen and Chris Martin filled in for Bono, who's still recovering from his bicycle accident injuries.
Chris Martin was the first guest vocalist performing "Beautiful Day" and "With Or Without You" as the concert opened. The Edge would return to the stage to accompany Carrie Underwood on her song "Change." Underwood would remain on stage for another song with her own band. Kanye West then took the stage for a short set after an introduction by Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen.
U2 would later return to the stage, with Times Square in red, to play "Where the Streets Have No Name" and "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" with Bruce Springsteen contributing vocals. Bruce dedicated "I Still Haven't Found" to Bono and the song closed the performances for the evening.
