Fantastic show, absolutely wonderful! Been to a handful of U2 concerts over three tours and they has never disappointed me with their performance. The new material holds up great live (further proof that live performance is U2’s strength), and blended well with older songs that sounded just as fresh as if they were just released. City of Burning Lights, Love and Peace or Else, Vertigo, Sometimes You Can't Make it on Your Own and Original of the Species (which as still brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it and has become my personal favorite off How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb) were all awesome. Hearing songs that I had never heard live in person like Gloria, Running to Stand Still and Out of Control were treats to say the least.
On a personal note, tonight’s concert will always be rather special to my wife and I as Bono dedicated Original of the Species to those with “Babies in their bellies,” as we ourselves found out last week that she is pregnant. The song will always have added poignant meaning for us now.
The band sounded great tonight, even with a few missteps as Bono apparently changed the set-list song to song during the phenomenal encore. The Fly rocked! The Bad/40 medley was emotionally moving beyond words, it is not hard to believe that many still after all these years consider it their best live song.
All in all, I don’t know if any concert could beat Elevation Hartford, CT for my wife and I (front row, inside the heart Edge side), but this show came as close as it could. Thanks to U2 and all of their production crew for another truly magical show! To all of the doubters out there, a U2 show is much more than just a concert; it is an emotional/spiritual experience. Here’s to many more years of great shows.
