The tickets to this concert in Sun Devil stadium in Tempe , AZ cost only $5 dollars each. All seats in the stadium were $5 each. Needless to say it sold out in minutes as did the tickets for for previous nights concert (also at Sun Devil stadium). These were the last 2 shows of the Joshua Tree tours(Dec 19-20 ,1987). MTV ran a promotion in the summer of 1987 for these 2 dates , it was called "Spend the Night in the Desert with U2". The reason for the extra low prices was the band was in the process of making the movie "Rattle and Hum" and a large portion of the movie was being filmed at these 2 concerts. They wanted to ensure all 250,000 seats were full (they would have been full even at the regular ticket prices of $25-$50). It was a little awkward because there were cameras and camerman all over the stage and so not only was there a concert , but also a movie being made at the same time. It was quite an experience being able to spend the night in the desert with U2 , especially for only $5.
