The show doesn't begin until about 9:20 pm local time, which is about 20 minutes later than many shows began earlier on this tour. Though there are some new touches throughout the night (see below), overall the show is very similar to those during the first leg of the tour -- Bono sings the familiar "America" snippet; the Trackdown/Trump video plays before "Exit," and so forth. Missing is "Miss Sarajevo," which has been played at every other show during the first two legs of the tour, with the exception of the Bonnaroo Festival on June 9.
Bono dedicates "One Tree Hill" to a a man named Rob, whom he describes as the late father of a fan that Bono spoke with outside the stadium earlier in the day. Moments later, Patti Smith joins U2 on stage to sing "Mothers Of The Disappeared," just as she did in late July in Paris. They partner on a powerful version of the song that sees Bono and Smith trading verses, and Smith repeating the "hear their hearts beat" line throughout. The song ends with Smith re-singing the first couple verses of the song a cappella.
As you'd expect, recent events in the U.S. play a prominent role in the show. During "Ultraviolet," Heather Heyer's photo is included among the iconic women on screen -- she died three weeks ago when a driver slammed into a crowd of counter protesters during a white supremacy rally in Charlottesville. Before "One," Bono praises the U.S. for its response to the Hurricane Harvey flooding in Houston and surrounding areas. And as the band plays the song, visuals on screen morph from the Texas state flag to the Red Cross flag logo and then to the U.S. flag. The screen also invites attendees to send a text message to make a $10 donation to Harvey relief efforts.
