A packed Stade de France welcomes U2 for the first time since the 360 tour. The band open confidently with the familiar couplet of "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "New Years Day" before Bono precedes "Bad" with a lengthy tribute to Paris -- 'So many memories' -- whilst also paying tribute to David Bowie, informing the audience of spending an evening three years ago with him, before singing a few verses from "Heroes" and "Where Are We Now?"
A standard run through of The Joshua Tree is next, but with a special guest singing on "Mothers Of The Dissapeared" -- Patti Smith, who references own "People Have The Power." Its' her third appearance with U2 in recent years, having guested twice in London and Paris on the Innocence + Experience tour.
Of note, the setlist was the first time three consecutive shows on the tour have been identical on the European leg (following the preceding concerts in Barcelona and Paris). Bono announces that "The Little Things That Give You Away" will be at the end of the Songs Of Experience album.
Amongst the VIP section spotted tonight are Sean Penn, Lenny Kravitz, Wim Wenders and Julian Lennon. In addition, prior to the concert there are notably cameras filming interviews on stage, including Jake Berry, U2's Production Director for the tour.
