The first half of the show features U2's trip back to the innocence of U2's youth in Dublin, and mirrors the first half of the shows that were done in North America on the first leg. Bono greets the audience by speaking Italian several times throughout the show, and the on-screen visuals are also done in Italian, as you'd expect -- including "The Fly" intermission video. The Italian audience sings loudly all night, including on the new tracks from Songs Of Innocence.
The show's theme takes a dramatic change in the second set. "Bullet The Blue Sky" features several new visuals, including scenes that look like riot police walking slowly through a street. Bono's rant is also changed slightly from what he sung in North America, and ends with him shouting, "I'm not dangerous! I'm in danger!" That leads into a stripped down and abbreviated version of "Zooropa" sung by Bono alone. At the end, as the song segues into "Streets," Bono shouts "What do you want? A Europe with its heart and borders closed to mercy? Or a Europe with its heart open? A place called home!" He's referring to the Syrian refugee crisis, which has thousands of people fleeing into Europe to save their lives.
Bono continues to reference that situation during "Pride" when he changes the lyric to "one boy washed on an empty beach," a reference to a famous photo that's been seen around the world of a two-year-old who drowned while fleeing Syria. During the beginning of "City Of Blinding Lights," the hashtag #refugeeswelcome is added to the Stephen Hawking intro video. And Bono finally addresses the situation at length after "Beautiful Day," telling the crowd, "I don't know the answer to the refugee crisis in Africa, but we must work together to find the answer."
