With a host of politicians and other government-type officials at the show, tonight's "Beautiful Day" namecheck is Madeleine Albright, who served as U.S. Secretary of State for four years under President Clinton. This audience and city also has Bono thinking about the word "compromise" -- he mentions it several times during the show. During his MacPhisto speech before "Acrobat," he sarcastically praises politicians for "fighting amongst yourselves" and says, "Whatever happens, don't mention the 'C' word ... compromise!" He mentions it again during the intro to "One," saying compromise is the "one word [that] has kept our band together."
As a fan near the b-stage screams unusually loudly, Bono stops his introduction of "Staring At The Sun" and asks, "You okay?" It prompts lots of laughs from the fans who know what he's reacting to.
