Bono speaks at length before "Iris" about how he feels naked singing some of the songs on this tour (because they're such personal songs), and then dedicates the song to each band member's mom.
Out on the e-stage, U2 finally delivers on a promise that Bono made to fans all the way back in San Jose: "The Crystal Ballroom" is played for the first time. Bono introduces it as "a song fans have been asking for," and then explains that it's about a punk club in Dublin called McGonagle's, but everyone called it the Crystal Ballroom. "Sweetest Thing" is dedicated to Bono's wife Ali and played for the first time since Los Angeles on May 26th. During the song, Bono coordinates the crowd so that one side of the building sings the "oh oh oh" part and the other sings "the sweetest thing."
The mother/child animation isn't used tonight during "Mother & Child Reunion/Streets."
Before "I Still Haven't Found...," Bono leads the crowd in singing "Happy Birthday" to actor John Cusack, who turned 49 yesterday (and is presumably at the show).
