At about the time the show normally begins, an announcement is made over the PA system telling fans that the show will be delayed because of a "minor technical difficulty." Fans at the show say the video screen seems to be going on and off. The show eventually begins at 8:57 pm local time, a good 30 minutes after the normal starting time.
Bono stumbles down the small barricage stairs at the start of "Lights Of Home." It happens as he's walking backwards and asking the audience to turn on their cellphone lights. After the short fall, he gets up quickly and misses a bit of the first line of the song. He doesn't appear to be injured and the show goes on as planned.
Famed film director George Lucas is at the show and gets the "right in front of you" shoutout during "Beautiful Day."
Before the final song of the night, Bono tells the crowd that the employees of the United Center pooled their money to help with Project (RED), and the venue's management matched those funds. He calls it a "significant sum of money" and offers a heartfelt thanks for their generosity.
