The show itself is emotional, with the audience singing loudly and Bono making several references to the attacks. After "I Will Follow," he tells the crowd that "our prayer tonight is to be useful to you" and says it's "an honor and privilege to serve you this evening." He changes the lyrics during "Pride" to say "early evening November 13th, shots rung out in the Paris sky." And during "City Of Blinding Lights," the arena is bathed in the colors of the French flag while the names of the terrorist attack victims scroll slowly on the video screen.
Patti Smith joins the band on stage as "Bad" ends and sings a bit of her version of "Gloria" with Bono. She stays on stage and the show closes with a potent version of "People Have The Power."
"Ordinary Love" is played for only the second time on the European tour, and the first since opening night -- September 4th in Italy. (Yesterday was the second anniversary or Nelson Mandela's death.)
Rumors swirl before the show that Eagles Of Death Metal, the band that was on stage at Bataclan when the terrorists attacked last month, would be a special guest tonight, but U2 issues a statement on its website before the show saying that rumor wasn't true.
The performance of "People Have The Power" with Patti Smith from this show, is later included as a bonus feature on the U2 Innocence + Experience Live From Paris DVD.
